Software Engineer – C++ / Qt Desktop Applications
Job Description
Alare Technologies, LLC is seeking a Software Engineer to help build and maintain desktop Ground Control Station software used for UAV operations. This onsite role in Moorpark, CA focuses on creating reliable operator workflows and integrating low-latency telemetry, video, and UAV command functionality for customers and internal flight test teams.
What you’ll work on
- Develop and maintain C++ / Qt / QML ground control software for UAV operations.
- Design and enhance UI workflows for mission planning, vehicle status, telemetry visualization, video display, payload control, alerts, and logging.
- Build and maintain MAVLink integration for telemetry, command interfaces, mission workflows, and custom protocol extensions.
- Apply knowledge of low-latency video pipelines using FFmpeg, GStreamer, RTSP, and H.264/H.265 (or similar technologies).
- Improve ground control software performance, reliability, and usability in flight-test and field conditions.
- Collaborate with flight-test engineers and operators to reduce operator workload and improve mission success.
- Support internal Python / Qt desktop automation tools, sensor validation, DAQ/test hardware, and engineering automation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (strongly preferred).
- 3+ years of strong C++ software engineering experience for desktop applications.
- Experience with Qt, QML, Qt Widgets, or similar desktop UI frameworks.
- Experience building Windows or cross-platform desktop applications.
- Experience with networked, hardware-connected, or real-time data applications.
- Familiarity with Git, CMake or similar build systems, code review, and software testing.
- Experience with map-centric UIs, including GIS, offline maps, terrain data, and QGC map engines.
- Familiarity with low-latency video technologies such as FFmpeg, GStreamer, RTSP, WebRTC, H.264/H.265, and KLV metadata.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (ITAR requirements).

Compensation and benefits
Salary range: USD $110,000 - $155,000 per year.
