Job Description
Microsoft’s Identity and Network Access engineering team is hiring Software Engineers to design and deliver Microsoft Entra Security Service Edge (SSE) offerings. In this Mountain View, CA onsite role, you will work on large-scale distributed networking security services with an emphasis on security, AI-enabled capabilities, and reliable operations.
What You Will Do
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering team members to design and develop large-scale distributed networking security software services and solutions.
- Use AI to build advanced security capabilities and improve engineering productivity.
- Apply modern software engineering practices through design reviews, and incorporate feedback via design and code review processes.
- Design systems using well-defined interfaces across multiple components, using data and telemetry to guide decisions.
- Build best-in-class services by keeping components well-defined, modular, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored, and reusable.
- Improve test coverage by organizing and implementing integration tests and addressing problem areas.
- Evaluate testability, portability and monitoring, reliability, and maintainability, and determine when code is ready for sharing and delivery.
- Develop a working understanding of Microsoft businesses and partner with mentors and leaders to contribute to cohesive, end-to-end user experiences.
- Address customer and partner needs using a data-driven approach.
- Troubleshoot and optimize automation, reliability, and monitoring for Live Site.
Core Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Golang, or Rust.
- OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements for this role.
Security Screening Requirements
- Successful completion of the Microsoft background check and the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire or transfer, and again every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, with proven coding experience in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Golang, or Rust; OR a Bachelor's Degree in the same fields plus 2+ years of technical engineering experience coding in those languages; OR equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with core networking protocols and technologies, including HTTP, TLS, TCP/IP, and DNS.
- Experience with Unix/Linux-based operating systems and open-source contributions.
- Experience working with proxy stacks such as Istio, Envoy, nginx, or HAProxy.

Compensation
Compensation is aligned to Software Engineering IC3 / IC2 levels and location.
- Software Engineering IC3: USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year (typical base pay across the U.S.).
- Software Engineering IC3: USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year (base pay for the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area).
- Software Engineering IC2: USD $85,400 - $168,100 per year (typical base pay across the U.S.).
- Software Engineering IC2: USD $111,100 - $183,700 per year (base pay for the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area).
