Software Engineer I/II - Scientific Computing
Job Description
Join a hybrid team in Boston building software that supports computational chemists running, tracking, and analyzing scientific workloads.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with computational chemists and machine learning researchers to translate research requirements into usable software
- Design, build, and maintain Python applications, libraries, APIs, and command-line tools
- Create dependable workflows for drug discovery workloads
- Enhance orchestration, monitoring, and recovery for workloads deployed on AWS and cloud platforms such as Modal and Lambda
- Integrate scientific applications with shared data, compute, and model services
- Troubleshoot production issues, document tools, and support scientists in using them effectively
- Participate in end-to-end engineering work including design, testing, code review, deployment, and production support
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field and 5+ years of software development experience, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong proficiency in Python, including building clear, tested, maintainable production code
- Experience running scientific or batch workloads on AWS
- Experience with Prefect or another workflow orchestration system
- Familiarity with computational chemistry workloads such as molecular dynamics or docking
- Familiarity with the machine learning model lifecycle
- Service-oriented mindset with clear communication and interest in helping scientists work effectively

Location: Boston, MA (hybrid). Full-time role based on the US East Coast; remote work elsewhere in the United States is also considered.
Compensation range: USD 129,000 - 190,000 per year.
