Job Description

This Software Engineer II role focuses on ML and AI at Home Depot, building and maintaining production applications in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with UX, engineering, and product management to design secure, reliable, and scalable software solutions.
  • Document and review quality and change control to ensure standards are met.
  • Partner with the Product Team to ensure user stories are developer-ready, clear, and testable.
  • Develop custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test cases.
  • Implement code or scripts to conduct destructive testing to verify production resiliency.
  • Configure and modify setups on large projects using Home Depot approved methodologies.
  • Integrate and tailor commercial off the shelf solutions to meet evolving business needs.
  • Build meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and response plans to proactively address issues.
  • Proactively pursue growth and new challenges through formal and informal development channels.
  • Learn from experiments, both successful and failed, when approaching new problems.
  • Participate in agile processes with other team members and contribute to team success.
  • Foster collaboration and help create new ways for the team to succeed.

Compensation

  • Salary: USD 90,000 - 170,000 per year

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of relevant software development or engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in Python and at least one object oriented language (Java preferred).
  • Experience developing, integrating, or supporting AI/ML solutions, including models, generative AI applications, LLMs, or AI-powered services.
  • Hands-on with AI development frameworks and tools such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, LangChain, OpenAI or Azure AI services.
  • Experience writing and optimizing SQL queries against relational databases; familiarity with NoSQL.
  • Version control experience (Git preferred).
  • Frontend basics (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and TypeScript frameworks.
  • Cloud-native development on Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • CI/CD, DevOps practices, and automated deployment tooling.
  • Experience building and maintaining microservice architectures and APIs.
  • Modern debugging, monitoring, and root cause analysis capabilities.
  • Exposure to AI model evaluation, prompt engineering, model tuning, or MLOps practices.
  • Understanding of security frameworks for user and service authentication and authorization.
  • Experience creating and executing unit, functional, integration, performance, and automated tests.
  • Strong adoption of software engineering best practices, including code reviews, documentation, and agile methodologies.
