Job Description

USAA's Investment Experience Technology organization in Phoenix is seeking a mid-level Software Engineer (Java Full Stack) to design and deliver high-impact Java/Full-Stack solutions using a modern tech stack that powers digital-first investment experiences. This hybrid role combines hands-on development with collaboration across design reviews, production support, and mentoring responsibilities, contributing to robust software while advancing your technical career.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, code, and test complex technical solutions across the stack.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve intricate application and production issues through systematic analysis.
  • Perform complex systems analysis to identify improvements and recommend changes to operations and procedures.
  • Define system specifications and standards to prepare and install complex solutions.
  • Adhere to the software development lifecycle and participate in design reviews.
  • Mentor junior engineers and participate in peer code reviews.
  • Identify, measure, and control risks related to business activities in line with risk and compliance policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or four additional years of experience in lieu of a degree, or an approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT).
  • At least four years of software development experience with deep technical expertise in one or more disciplines/technologies.
  • Two years of delivering technology solutions across all phases of the software development lifecycle, including leading code and design reviews.
  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, and Python.
  • Developing business acumen in operations, risk management, industry practices, and emerging trends.
  • Experience addressing production issues through troubleshooting and issue resolution.
  • Ability to articulate technical challenges and solutions clearly.
  • Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $93,770.00 - $179,240.00 per year.
