Job Description
Software Engineer I will support the Enterprise by building, testing, and deploying software solutions across the application development lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, code, and test complex technical solutions.
- Investigate and resolve complex application and system problems, including production issues, using troubleshooting techniques.
- Improve operations through complex systems analysis and recommendations to policies and procedures.
- Prepare and install complex solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
- Follow the software development lifecycle end to end.
- Participate in design reviews and learn key system design principles.
- Mentor junior engineers; may mentor peer engineers and conduct/perform teammate code reviews.
- Identify, measure, monitor, and control risks tied to business activities in line with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What sets you apart
- 4 years of software development experience with depth of technical understanding within one or more specific disciplines/technologies.
- 2 years delivering technology solutions across all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle, including leading code and/or design reviews.
- Operational Communication systems experience, including a strong understanding of CCM in the context of enterprise content management.
- Familiarity with AI-driven solutions for content automation, personalization, and development.
- Basic understanding of one or more: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, Python.
- Developing business acumen in business operations, risk management, industry practices, and emerging trends.
- Experience supporting production issue resolution through troubleshooting applications and systems.
- Experience articulating technical challenges and solutions.
- Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.
- US military experience gained through military service or gained as a military spouse/domestic partner.
Work model and location constraints
- Onsite role with in-office time 4 days per week.
- Based in San Antonio, TX.
- Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
Compensation
- Salary range: $93,770 - $179,240 per year.
- Paid within the range based on experience and market data for the position.
- Actual salary may vary by location.
- Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance, at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
