Software Engineer, Senior

Integrity Express Logistics is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help design, build, and maintain complex full-stack applications that support both customer-facing and internal business systems. In this remote-based role, you will provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and focus on software quality, troubleshooting, and operational efficiency, including responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.

What you will do

• Act as a technical subject matter expert for assigned applications, systems, and technical domains.
• Mentor Associate Software Engineers, Software Engineers, and other team members through code reviews, technical discussions, knowledge sharing, and informal coaching.
• Lead thorough code reviews and promote adherence to engineering standards, development practices, testing expectations, and technical quality standards.
• Contribute to or lead technical design discussions, solution architecture, implementation planning, and technical decision-making.
• Partner with Software Architects and engineering leadership on architectural direction, modernization efforts, technical standards, and long-term technology decisions.
• Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain complex software applications across the full stack, including front-end, back-end, databases, APIs, integrations, and related components.
• Independently own complex initiatives from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
• Develop scalable, secure, maintainable, high-performing software using established standards and best practices.
• Translate complex business and functional requirements into effective technical designs and implementation approaches.
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance to establish testing strategies and help ensure quality throughout the Software Development Lifecycle.
• Design and promote automated testing approaches to improve quality, reliability, and development efficiency.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex defects, application issues, integration challenges, performance concerns, and production incidents.
• Lead technical investigations and root cause analysis for significant defects, reliability issues, and production incidents.
• Identify opportunities to improve architecture, reduce technical debt, strengthen maintainability and security, and improve engineering processes.
• Collaborate with AI Delivery, Quality Assurance, Software Architecture, Data, UI/UX, and business stakeholders to evaluate requirements and deliver solutions.
• Evaluate technical approaches and tradeoffs across scalability, maintainability, security, reliability, performance, and delivery effort.
• Identify technical risks, dependencies, and implementation challenges, then recommend effective solutions.
• Participate in technical planning, including assessing complexity, resource needs, risks, and dependencies.
• Communicate technical recommendations, risks, progress, and improvement opportunities to engineering leadership and project stakeholders.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to support coding, troubleshooting, testing, documentation, research, and solution design while ensuring appropriate review and validation of outputs.
• Help establish effective practices for responsible use of AI-assisted development tools within engineering workflows.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, development standards, shared knowledge resources, and engineering knowledge bases.
• Propose and champion technologies, development practices, tools, and process improvements that increase engineering effectiveness and software quality.
• Stay current with emerging technologies, software development practices, security considerations, AI-assisted development capabilities, and industry trends.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

• Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of professional software development experience.
• Advanced experience designing and developing modern web-based software applications.
• Advanced understanding of full-stack development concepts, software architecture, design patterns, APIs, system integrations, and modern engineering practices.
• Advanced proficiency in PHP or a comparable object-oriented language.
• Significant experience with JavaScript, modern front-end frameworks, relational databases, and SQL.
• Strong understanding of SDLC, source control, automated testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
• Experience designing and implementing scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable software solutions.
• Experience leading complex technical initiatives and providing technical guidance to other engineers.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor less experienced engineers and influence technical decisions without direct supervisory authority.
• Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools and technologies to improve productivity and delivery.
• Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written, verbal, technical, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred qualifications

• Advanced experience with Laravel/PHP, Vue.js, PostgreSQL, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, complex system integrations, and business-critical software applications.
• Experience with Linux-based operating systems, containerization technologies, cloud platforms, and modern infrastructure practices.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated deployment, automated testing strategies, and software quality initiatives.
• Experience with application performance optimization, scalability, reliability, technical debt reduction, modernization efforts, and long-term platform improvement.
• Experience with UI/UX principles, responsive application design, and collaborative Agile environments.
• Experience in logistics, transportation, freight brokerage, supply chain, or Transportation Management Systems (TMS).

Location and work environment

• Columbus, OH (remote)
• This position operates primarily in a remote work environment.
• Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required to support software releases, production issues, or other critical technology initiatives.
• Limited travel may be necessary for meetings, training, and company-sponsored events.

Physical requirements

• Ability to sit or stand at a desk for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to lift up to 15 lbs.
