Software Engineer/ Software Architect - Level 4

Northrop Grumman is hiring a Level 4 Software Engineer / Software Architect to support Internal Research and Development (IRAD) efforts in Huntsville, Alabama. In this onsite role, you will design, develop, document, test, and debug application software and systems while shaping the processes that help deliver program goals.

Role summary

The position focuses on planning and evolving execution practices, establishing software baselines across phases, and conducting analysis to determine which capabilities are needed. You will also lead development of new software systems in a complex environment and manage subsystem and vendor integration using an overall system vision.

Responsibilities

• Plan and evolve processes and practices to execute program goals
• Analyze Demonstration and I&T Plans to define the software baselines required for each phase
• Perform gap analysis and maturity analysis for software components to identify needed capabilities
• Lead the development of new software systems in a complex environment
• Attain and utilize an overall system vision, managing development and integration of several subsystems and vendors

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline (preferred from an accredited university) with 8 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree with 6 years experience, or a PhD with 4 years experience
• Software architecture and design experience
• Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and container orchestration
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
• Configuration management experience using Git, Bitbucket, and JIRA
• Basic team leadership experience
• Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs
• Current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance (required to start)

Compensation and location

Location: Huntsville, AL (onsite). Salary: USD 135,800 - 203,600 per year.
