Space Launch Systems (SLS) Stress Analyst Engineer
Job Description
The Structural Analyst will support the Space Launch System (SLS) program by performing structural strength analysis for non-flight hardware at Marshall Space Flight Center. This position focuses on finite element-based stress analysis package development and clear technical communication with engineering and management stakeholders.

USD 86,900 - 103,000 per year
Experience and Education
A degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering (or another engineering field) from an ABET accredited institution is required.
- Ph.D. with some experience
- or MS with at least 3 years of experience
- or BS with at least 8+ years of experience
Key Responsibilities
- Develop formal stress analysis packages for ground support and special test equipment using strength of materials and finite element-based methods.
- Interface with design engineers to provide inputs to preliminary designs.
- Develop and deliver reports and presentations to management.
- Collaborate with outside vendors and personnel from other NASA centers in the development of structural hardware.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in one or more major commercial finite element codes: FEMAP, PATRAN, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, or ANSYS.
- Experience applying finite element methods and evaluating failure mechanisms such as rupture, yield, buckling, and fatigue.
- Experience analyzing joints containing mechanical fasteners or welds.

- Ability to use stairs or elevators to access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and company facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines
- Ability to operate a personal computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance and Scheduling
- Normal workday: 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and support technical demands.
- Regular attendance is required, including adequate arrangements for delegation during absences.
