Sr. I&C Design Engineer
Job Description
Cimarron Software is seeking a Senior I&C Design Engineer for an onsite contract role in Tullahoma, TN, supporting the TOS II program at Arnold Air Force Base. In this position, you will collaborate with the NHTF Project Team and work alongside electrical and I&C design teams to shape instrumentation and control system design for aerospace testing environments.
Responsibilities
- Execute instrumentation and control system engineering tasks, which may involve refining scope and objectives and exploring multiple variables, while adhering to established work processes.
- Prepare, interpret, or review calculations, drawings, specifications, plans, investigations, systems, or equipment within the instrumentation and control domain.
- Engage with internal and external customers to confirm system and test requirements.
- Develop system requirements documentation for projects.
- Design, develop, and maintain instrumentation and data systems and automated control systems.
- Develop software for automated control and human machine interface (HMI) applications.
- Produce design calculations, engineering studies, and technical reports.
- Review Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams to validate control and instrumentation needs.
- Create logic diagrams and specifications or datasheets to support procurement of process instrumentation.
- Estimate material quantities for project needs.
- Review vendor submittals and provide technical comments and recommendations.
- Participate in technical review meetings and resolve issues as they arise.

Requirements
- U.S. citizenship is required due to facility security requirements.
- Ability to pass pre-employment background checks, breath alcohol testing, and drug screening, including marijuana testing.
- Position is safety-sensitive and subject to DOT random drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network.
- Eight years of progressive and relevant engineering experience.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering from an accredited college or university.

Desired Skills, Experience, and Education
- Progressive experience with control system theory and design concepts, including controls strategy and algorithm development, math modeling and simulations, calibration, motion and process controls, instrumentation, sequencing systems, stability and control, valve design, systems safety, networks and field buses, control system optimization, and learning or rule-based systems.
- Experience in designing or applying closed-loop control systems and feedback control methods.
- Hands-on experience with PLC, DCS, and HMI applications in control systems.
- Proficiency with PID control and related control schemes.
- Background working with transducers, sensors, electrical circuits, signal processing, and data acquisition for measuring temperature, pressure, force, flow, acceleration, vibration, and other aerospace-related phenomena.
- Experience with sensors that convert physical phenomena into electrical signals and with signal processing and analysis methodologies.
- Familiarity with analog and digital filtering, and A/D and D/A conversion techniques.
- Experience integrating sensors, signal conditioning, filtering, and A/D conversion for measurement of physical quantities.
- Background developing Instrumentation and Data Acquisition software and applying measurement uncertainty analyses.
- Experience calibrating instrumentation and, broadly, design engineering experience plus exposure to startup, field engineering, or plant operation within large industrial, utility, process, or construction environments.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Active Secret Security Clearance.
