Sr. Principal Design Engineer
Job Description
Senior Principal Design Engineer role at Northrop Grumman in Rolling Meadows, IL (hybrid) focused on CCA and PCB design, fabrication, and DFM using Cadence Allegro and Valor NPI.
Responsibilities
- Generate and maintain design rules for Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) fabrication
- Perform design for manufacturing checks
- Generate fabrication notes for PCBs
- Calculate layer stack-up guided by industry standards, supplier capabilities, and engineering requirements
- Use Cadence Allegro and Valor NPI to produce fabrication and manufacturing data files
- Serve as the primary interface with CCA and PCB suppliers
- Apply understanding of electrical and mechanical PCB behavior to influence layout decisions, including impedance matching, differential pair handling, stresses, and component orientation
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 8 years of related experience, or Master's degree with 6 years, or in lieu of a degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience
- Experience with PCB fabrication and layer stack-up for digital, RF, mixed-signal, and power CCAs
- Proficiency with Cadence Allegro or a similar CAD tool
- Expert knowledge of industry specifications and design for manufacturability (DFM) rules for CCA and PCB design, fabrication, and manufacturing
- Ability to read engineering drawings and schematic diagrams
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
