Sr. Principal PWB Design Engineer

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Senior-Principal PWB Design Engineer to join its Charlottesville, VA team in a hybrid work arrangement. In this role, you will oversee the layout and fabrication data of PWBs and PCBs using Cadence Allegro, lead design reviews, and collaborate closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to deliver robust, manufacturable assemblies.

Responsibilities

• Layout of PWBs/PCBs, flex circuits, interconnect routing, and generation of engineering drawings
• Determine layer stack-up based on industry standards, supplier capabilities, and engineering requirements
• Create and document the electronic data files required for fabrication and manufacturing
• Interface with electrical and mechanical engineers to optimize component placement, routing, and mechanical fitment for rigid, flex, and rigid-flex assemblies
• Apply knowledge of electrical and mechanical behavior to guide layout decisions (impedance matching, differential pairs, strains and stresses, component orientation, etc.)
• Incorporate PWB/PCB change notices into designs
• Review designs and drawings for manufacturability
• Coordinate and lead design reviews with engineering, quality, and manufacturing personnel

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 8 years of directly related professional experience, or Master's degree in STEM with 6 years of directly related professional experience, or 12 years of directly related professional experience in lieu of a degree
• Drafting and design experience in PCB design for fabrication and PWB layer stack-up for digital, RF, mixed-signal, and power supply CCAs
• Experience with Cadence Allegro or a similar CAD tool
• Knowledge of industry specifications and design-for-manufacturing rules for CCA and PWB design, fabrication and manufacturing
• Must be able to read drawings and schematic diagrams
• US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
