Responsibilities
- Conduct investigations into diverse structural engineering concerns
- Analyze procedures with a thorough understanding of standards and practices
- Prepare clear, scientifically grounded reports
- Provide expert testimony when required
- Prioritize and defend repair strategies by ranking emphasis and feasibility
- Develop and deliver repair designs as needed
- Lead assessments and evaluations of existing structures
- Review and approve engineers' reports before final delivery to clients
- Evaluate client requests for service, including pricing and budget considerations
- Attend meetings with clients, jurisdictional agencies, and other professionals
- Develop cost-conscious solutions within budget, schedule, and project constraints
- Review designs produced by other team members
- Perform peer reviews, forensic studies, and expert witness services
- Provide testimony under oath in deposition, arbitration, or trial
- Manage and design structural projects and components
- Lead design and analysis work for a variety of structures
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Professional Engineer license is required; Structural Engineer license is a plus
- 5+ years of hands-on structural engineering experience
- Broad experience in structural and vertical construction; horizontal experience is a plus
- Experience with industrial, institutional, or commercial structures and knowledge of most roof types and applications
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Excellent technical, analytical, writing, and communication skills
- Willing to travel approximately 15%
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and the ability to drive
- Prior forensic experience is highly beneficial but not required
Work Environment
The role combines office work with field assignments. Field tasks may require using ladders and lifts, entering crawl spaces, walking on sloped roofs, and crawling through attics. You will assess structures damaged by fire, weather events, or other hazards, and may need to navigate around obstructions to complete evaluations.
