Role Overview
The Senior Structural Engineer leads the design engineering and detailing group on a day-to-day basis. Reporting to the General Manager, this position combines advanced technical design with team leadership, overseeing a team of CAD and Revit detailers. You will serve as the technical link between design, plant production, and quality control to ensure structural integrity, manufacturability, and project profitability.
Responsibilities
- Engineering Leadership: supervise and mentor a team of four CAD/Revit detailers; manage departmental workflows, project milestones, and deadlines.
- Structural Design: perform engineering calculations for prestressed concrete structures such as parking garages, bridges, multi-family residential buildings, and hotels; coordinate and review outsourced design work.
- Project Management: oversee multiple projects through design, checking, submission, production, and construction phases.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: partner with Project Managers, Plant Manager, and QC Department to assist with bidding, resolve design issues, generate RFIs, address production issues, and generate NCRs.
- Innovation & Strategy: drive project optimization, develop efficient shipping and handling schemes, generate camber control plans, and value-engineer solutions for design-build projects.
- Technical Oversight: generate, review, and seal (P.E.) calculations and construction documents to ensure strict adherence to building codes and company standards.
- Stakeholder Communication: act as the primary technical contact for clients and participate in project meetings to ensure team alignment and client satisfaction.
Qualifications & Experience
Education: BS in Civil or Structural Engineering; MS preferred. Licensure: Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) is required, with the ability to obtain licensure in all New England states and New York. Experience: 10+ years of structural engineering experience, including at least 5+ years specifically in precast and prestressed concrete design.
Standards & Technical Proficiency
Industry standards and codes: strong knowledge of PCI Design Handbook, IBC, ASCE-7, ACI 318, and AISC Steel Construction Manual 360, along with ASCE-7. Technical tools: proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD and other structural design software; solid MS Office skills (Excel and Word).
Leadership & Communication
Demonstrated ability to lead a technical team and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, from shop floor personnel to project owners.
Compensation & Benefits
