Staff Applied AI Engineer
Job Description
Amigo is seeking a Staff Applied AI Engineer for an onsite NYC role with compensation USD 240,000 - 300,000 per year.
Responsibilities
- Spearhead an AI deployment for a major healthcare customer, from initial engagement through production rollout.
- Convert ambiguous customer needs into a concrete technical plan with assigned owners and deadlines.
- Define the architectural direction and engineering standards the team will implement.
- Make strategic tradeoff decisions on what to build now, what to reuse, and what to push back on.
- Develop and elevate the capabilities of the engineering team.
- Collaborate directly with customers to maintain clear scope, timelines, and quality expectations.
Requirements
- Proven experience delivering large-scale engineering work end to end in roles such as tech lead, staff engineer, or engineering manager.
- Demonstrated ability to break down hard, ambiguous problems into work that other engineers can own and deliver.
- Real-world experience with large language models and agent systems, or the ability to ramp quickly.
- Sound judgment for tradeoffs and the confidence to say no when a proposal does not meet standards.
- Leadership across architecture, people, or both.
- Low ego, direct communication, and a high personal and team standard.
- Ability to work on site in New York City or San Francisco.
