Staff Engineer
Job Description
At Bergstrom Inc, a leader in thermal-management solutions, the Staff Engineer will oversee CAE simulations that shape the design and optimization of Bergstrom’s HVAC thermal systems. This onsite role in Rockford, IL leads tool selection, governance, and standardized workflows while mentoring engineers across global teams.
Responsibilities
- Conducts simulations to verify the aerodynamic convergence of Bergstrom’s HVAC systems.
- Supports styling and structural design by analyzing flow phenomena.
- Incorporates environmental considerations into the design process.
- Prepares models, creates meshes, performs CFD and FEA analyses, and conducts post processing of results.
- Provides engineering support across design, testing, durability, and performance recommendations.
- Collaborates with a global team of engineers on shared HVAC system concerns and design challenges.
- Performs thermal-hydraulic analyses using corporate CFD tools such as ANSYS Fluent, ANSYS Mechanical, ANSYS Discover, and others as needed.
- Qualifies CFD and FEA methodologies and documents them.
- Conceives CFD/FEA analyses and prepares proposals.
- Participates in and supports engineering testing.
- Guides testing setups to validate CFD and FEA results.
- Uses CFD/FEA results to steer testing configurations.
- Maintains close collaboration with customers and engages actively on projects.
- Provides global simulation consulting and mentorship to empower early simulation use in design.
- Coordinates CAE analysis activities on a global scale.
- Identifies training needs and tools to support global engineering teams.
Requirements
- Ability to interpret CFD and FEA results and communicate clear messages to the design community.
- Strong understanding of the product development process and how various vehicle systems interact.
- Excellent presentation, problem solving, and teamwork skills.
- Solid foundation in fundamental physics and engineering principles.
- Experience leading teams and solving complex issues.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, physics, or a related technical discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in CFD and FEA analysis for mobile thermal management or similar fields.
- Deep knowledge of CFD and FEA methodologies related to fluid flow, thermal transfer, and structural analysis.
