Staff Engineer, Power System Battery Pack Designer
Job Description
Oversee the architecture, design, qualification, integration, and deployment of high‑voltage battery systems for X‑BAT, the Launch and Recovery Vehicle, and related ground equipment.
Responsibilities
- Articulate and implement the overall vision for the battery system across X‑BAT, the Launch and Recovery Vehicle, and all ground assets
- Implement high‑voltage battery packs of 270V or greater to enable an approximate 100 kW power system
- Design, develop, and integrate advanced high‑power architectures optimized for reliability in harsh environments such as high altitude and radiation
- Conduct make/buy trade studies aligned with the long‑range development roadmap
- Contribute to recruiting and building the Power System team
- Establish a world‑class power electronics lab supporting all battery requirements
- Ensure performance and reliability through rigorous verification activities
- Troubleshoot complex issues spanning electrical design, environmental, and manufacturing domains
- Provide mentorship, lead design reviews, and drive program execution
- Operate effectively in a fast‑paced environment
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Experience designing battery systems for large aircraft or comparable power platforms (rocket, satellite, submarine, etc.)
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Has delivered battery power systems to market
- Proficient with electrical engineering development tools, simulation software, and test equipment
- Strong technical fundamentals and analytical capabilities

Compensation
- Salary: USD 150,000 - 220,000 per year
