Structural Engineer - Dams & Hydropower
Job Description
This role supports Mead & Hunt’s dams, hydropower, and water resources work. As a structural engineer, you will develop engineering calculations and design documentation for hydraulic structures, support assessments of existing assets, and contribute during construction.
Location and Work Details
Sacramento, CA (onsite). The position requires a valid driver’s license and some travel.
Salary
USD 40–54 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare engineering calculations and design documents for hydraulic structures and other structural engineering projects, including dams, spillways, canals, pump stations, and valve houses.
- Partner with project team members to develop calculations, reports, specifications, plans, and schedules.
- Support condition assessments for existing structures.
- Assist with developing probable construction cost estimates.
- Visit project sites to collect data and monitor progress.
- Support construction administration activities for projects in construction.
- Provide client support through communication related to assigned projects.
- Attend client meetings when necessary.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in civil, structural, or architectural engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
- At least two (2) years of relevant structural engineering experience.

Additional Preferred Background
- EIT certification
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary project team
- Knowledge of or experience with the design of hydraulic structures
- Strong technical writing skills, including report, specification, and technical memorandum preparation
- Knowledge of or experience with California Building Code, ASCE 7, ACI 318, ACI 350, and AISC 360
- Experience with structural engineering software programs, including finite element analysis and CAD tools such as RISA 3D, SAP2000, and AutoCAD
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (considered an asset, not required)
