Role overview
As a System Security Engineer supporting Naval Aviation acquisition programs, you will focus on system security engineering, cyber resiliency, vulnerability research, testing, and protective architectures onsite at Patuxent River, MD. The position emphasizes SSE expertise across weapons systems and related defense platforms within a rigorous, collaborative program environment.
Responsibilities
- Apply engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, design, develop, implement, test or evaluate military weapons systems.
- Review and prepare engineering analyses, reports, change proposals, and other technical documentation.
- Leverage systems engineering experience for system integration, configuration management, quality assurance testing, or acquisition and resource management.
- Analyze, develop, implement, test, or evaluate software, components, or systems tied to weapon system requirements and related support or management information systems.
- Participate in identifying weapon system CPI and determine the potential consequences of compromise.
- Conduct critical analysis and modeling on proposed architectures and document protective architectures.
- Develop and advocate contractual requirements to support developmental programs.
- Facilitate evaluation of weapon system architectures for protection-standard compliance.
- Coordinate with program offices, services, Joint and DoD agencies to ensure system horizontal protection requirements are met.
- Assist the Navy Verification & Validation team with assessing system designs and solutions.
- Support program risk management, mitigation, and reporting.
- Communicate across technical teams to share information, address issues, and accelerate development cycles.
- Serve as a Technical Review Board member for systems events providing SSE expertise.
- A Journeyman level professional typically performs all duties independently.
Requirements
- Minimum of three years of recent, relevant systems engineering experience including Systems Security Engineering and related roles.
- Experience developing Program Protection Plans and associated artifacts.
- Experience designing and understanding aircraft network architectures.
- Ability to identify, formulate, design, and test practical engineering solutions for modern complex systems and guide their development.
- Proven experience applying systems engineering methods and tools in weapon system development.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience in systems engineering, SSE, and cyber security related to weapon systems and platforms.
- Understanding of systems engineering processes and applications.
- Knowledge and experience in DoD systems acquisition life cycle.
Education, citizenship and security
- BA/BS from an accredited college or university in Aerospace, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Software, Network, Cyber Security, Systems Engineering, or related fields; a Masters may substitute for two years of experience.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Current Top-Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top-Secret/SCI clearance; the process may consider financial background factors.
Compensation and logistics
The projected annual salary ranges from $70,000 to $104,000, with final compensation determined by qualifications, education, experience, and contractual constraints.
