Technical Operations Engineer – Renewable Energy

This hybrid role supports renewable energy operations in Puerto Rico by combining engineering fundamentals with system performance monitoring, design review, and technical recommendations. The position is intended for an entry to mid-level electrical or mechanical engineer focused on solar PV, battery storage, and reliability improvement across a portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain technical guidelines and installation standards for solar PV systems, battery storage, inverters, and related components.
• Recommend updates to installation practices using performance data, field feedback, service trends, and manufacturer requirements.
• Review system designs including one-line diagrams, equipment configurations, and installation layouts to confirm technical accuracy and feasibility.
• Assess design risks, equipment compatibility concerns, and configuration issues that may impact system performance.
• Monitor system production, battery charge and discharge behavior, alerts, communication status, and overall portfolio performance.
• Analyze performance trends to detect underperformance, abnormal behavior, and recurring technical issues.
• Provide recommendations aimed at improving system reliability, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
• Act as a technical resource for operations, servicing, technology, risk, vendors, and installation partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Entry to mid-level professional experience or academic/project exposure in renewable energy, solar PV, battery storage, electrical systems, or performance analysis.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, technical specifications, and system layouts.
• Strong analytical skills to review system performance data, identify trends and anomalies, and support potential root-cause analysis.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical findings to both technical and non-technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with residential solar PV and battery storage systems.
• Familiarity with Tesla Powerwall, Enphase, SolarEdge, Generac, FranklinWH, or similar equipment.
• Experience with monitoring platforms, dashboards, Excel, Power BI, and Zoho tools.
• Knowledge of Puerto Rico renewable energy practices, including LUMA interconnection and net metering processes, NEC requirements, or electrical safety standards.
