Traffic Engineer - Entry Level

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP is seeking an entry‑level civil engineer to join its Traffic Engineering Group in Baltimore, working on traffic analysis and design for signals, signing, markings, and ITS deployments. This on-site role supports projects in the mid‑Atlantic region and beyond, offering exposure to everything from small intersection improvements to large interchanges and corridor studies, with opportunities to contribute to multimodal transportation plans and parking analyses. The position emphasizes collaboration across disciplines to enhance safety and mobility while growing technical expertise in a structured, team‑oriented environment.

Salary

USD 72,000 – 97,000 per year.

Responsibilities

• Design traffic signals, signing, markings, roadway and parking lot lighting, work zone traffic control, and ITS devices.
• Conduct traffic safety and operations studies.
• Develop or apply Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, and VISUM models.
• Perform operational analyses and prepare technical reports and presentations.
• Engage with projects across the mid‑Atlantic region (PA, MD, DE, VA) and nationally.
• Handle assignments ranging from minor intersection improvements to complex interchanges, corridors, and innovative multimodal plans and parking studies.
• Occasionally work at client sites as part of project delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• Relevant internship or job experience related to transportation engineering.
• 0–4 years of relevant work experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, at all organizational levels.
• Capacity to manage multiple assignments concurrently.
• Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD; proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Positive attitude and cooperative teamwork skills.
• Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification preferred.
