Transmission Line Design Engineer

Vertage is hiring a Transmission Line Design Engineer for a full-time hybrid role in the United States (3 days per week in office/field). This position blends independent technical ownership with hands-on project support, from design calculations and job packages through construction assistance. If you bring transmission line design depth and the ability to work through complex problems with minimal oversight, this role supports delivery toward business and project goals.

Compensation for this role is USD 65 to 69 per hour. You will also have the support of mileage reimbursement for use of a personal vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering and technical expertise focused on transmission line design.
• Analyze scenarios, evaluate options, and perform design calculations that align with design standards, applicable codes, and sound engineering practice.
• Support transmission line routing and siting, including conceptual design and cost estimates.
• Perform detailed transmission line design, covering structures, foundations, and electrical design for transmission line projects.
• Deliver construction support, including oversight and related activities.
• Identify, analyze, and help resolve complex problems in transmission line design.
• Prepare complete and accurate job packages, technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and drawings.
• Conduct engineering studies and recommend process enhancements and design standards for the area of assignment.
• Complete non-routine engineering work with minimal oversight, independently managing project schedules and interfaces.
• Modify designs in response to construction issues, environmental circumstances, and public concerns.
• Assist construction with troubleshooting and on-site problem resolution.
• Make informed decisions that may impact major projects or business/department results.
• Coordinate effectively with others and maintain strong oral and written communication while keeping accurate records and files.

Requirements

• Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program, or state registration as a Professional Engineer.
• Master’s degree in engineering may be considered in lieu of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree.
• Minimum 8 years of engineering experience.
• Professional Engineer Licensure.
• Experience in the utility industry.
• Minimum 2 years experience in Transmission Line Design.
• Transmission experience required; distribution will not translate.
• Proficiency in transmission line design theories and principles, including relevant design codes and standards.
• Proficiency with transmission line design software: PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER, PLS-POLE, MFAD.
• Ability to research solutions, evaluate alternatives, make sound recommendations, and present them.
• Ability to collaborate with individuals from a variety of socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and proficiency in project management principles.
