UI/UX Designer/Engineer

Altamira Technologies Corp. is seeking a UI/UX Designer/Engineer to strengthen UX processes for user-focused, mission-driven applications supporting the National Space Intelligence Center (NSIC) customer.

Responsibilities

• Gather, interpret, and validate user and customer requirements
• Break down, frame, and analyze the problems to be solved
• Collaborate with cross-functional developers to clarify problems and align on solutions
• Design user interfaces and interactivity solutions
• Communicate design specifications to graphic designers and developers using sketches, low fidelity or notional wireframes, and related artifacts
• Document work, findings, and design artifacts
• Coordinate with development leads to synchronize and integrate UX and design cycles into feature development iterations
• Monitor and communicate new industry UX and design practices

Requirements

• Knowledge of UX processes and mindset to gather requirements, analyze a problem, solve abstractly, and translate outcomes into UI design
• Ability to create an abstract model using mind maps, cognitive models, flow diagrams, or similar approaches
• Ability to produce rough and notional user interface designs (sketches, low fidelity mockups, wireframes) for communication and implementation
• Strong, effective communication skills
• Assertive mindset to advocate for user needs while understanding practical tradeoffs to keep development moving

Education

• 4-year degree in User Experience Design, User Interface Design, Interaction Design, Software Development, or Human Factors

Technologies

• Windows
• Linux
• Working knowledge of Windows and Linux is a plus

Experience

• UX experience can come from a broad range of disciplines
• Ability to convey UX experience and how you arrived at your current expertise

• Support expansion and refinement of UX processes for Altamira-developed, user-focused applications to improve the customer user experience
• Fast-paced, real-world software development experience for military and government customers
• Focus on designing intuitive, effective user interfaces and workflows by executing UX methodologies
• Customer requirements are deeply technical and complex; software development experience, customer interaction experience, and UX experience are relevant
• Challenges include limited access to end users and their current tools
• Customer motivations may differ from commercial domains

• Introduction of new tools and techniques is welcomed
