Based in Annapolis Junction, Maryland, this onsite role centers on developing, maintaining, and enhancing complex software systems to support national safety and security, while ensuring quality and performance through rigorous reviews and testing. The Senior Software Engineer Advisor will lead technical efforts, guide teams, and collaborate with systems and hardware engineers to meet program goals.
Responsibilities
- Analyze user requirements to derive design and performance specifications for software
- Debug and fix defects in existing software
- Recommend improvements to documentation and software development process standards
- Design and implement new software or modify existing software to add features
- Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments
- Create simple data queries for databases or data repositories
- Apply knowledge of ITOM, ITSM, HRSD, CSM and Service Portal
- Code with languages and technologies including HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Write or review software and system documentation
- Lead the software development team at a level appropriate to the project framework
- Design or implement complex database interfaces and data repository queries
- Develop or implement algorithms to meet or exceed performance and functional standards
- Assist in developing and executing test procedures for software components
- Develop solutions by analyzing performance standards, consulting with users and engineers, and examining data flows and processes
- Modify existing software to fix errors, adapt to new hardware, or improve performance
- Design, develop and modify software systems using analytical methods and mathematical models
- Design or implement complex algorithms under strict timing and resource constraints; perform quality control
- Implement recommendations to improve documentation and process standards
- Oversee one or more software development teams and ensure work adheres to project process constraints
- Confer with system and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and assess limitations and interfaces
- Coordinate software system installation and monitor operation to meet specifications
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required
- Four years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may substitute for a bachelor’s degree
- Two years of experience developing and customizing core IT service management applications such as Incident, Problem, Change, Knowledge, and Service Catalog
- Four years of IT application systems experience in delivering technology solutions
- Experience creating and implementing scripts, business rules, policies, ACLs and configuring or modifying ServiceNow applications
- Experience integrating third party software and APIs with ServiceNow using REST and SOAP
- Experience coding in scripting languages such as JavaScript, HTML, CSS, AngularJS, JSON or other ServiceNow related languages
- Four years of ServiceNow implementations experience
- Two years of experience developing on the ServiceNow Platform
- ServiceNow System Administrator certification or ServiceNow Application Developer certification

Salary
The likely salary range for this position is $195,500 to $264,500 per year. Final compensation is determined by experience, geographic location, and contractual requirements and may fall outside this range.
