Job Description

Robert Half is seeking a Workday Data Engineer for an onsite opportunity in New York, NY. The role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining scalable ERP data pipelines for Workday and related enterprise systems, with a strong emphasis on data quality, governance, and reliable production operations. Compensation is USD 65 - 135 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain scalable ERP data pipelines across Workday and related enterprise systems.
  • Own the full lifecycle of ERP data pipelines from ingestion through transformation to delivery.
  • Support data conversion and migration initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions and system integrations.
  • Ensure pipeline reliability, recoverability, and stable production operations.
  • Troubleshoot failures and identify root causes of data defects and operational issues.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate requirements into data solutions.
  • Apply and enforce SDLC best practices, including version control, code reviews, CI/CD, and release management.
  • Develop and maintain data quality controls for freshness, completeness, anomaly detection, and schema management.
  • Proactively detect and manage schema drift and downstream data issues.
  • Create and sustain monitoring, alerting, and observability for data pipelines.
  • Optimize performance, scalability, and cost of data workloads.
  • Monitor operational KPIs such as pipeline success rates, SLAs, incident trends, and recovery times.
  • Prepare runbooks, documentation, and audit-ready operational processes.
  • Collaborate with data governance, security, and compliance teams on controls and data access.
  • Support analytics, reporting, and integration teams with reliable, governed datasets.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and escalate risks early.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in data engineering, ETL/ELT development, or enterprise data integration.
  • Experience operating production data pipelines end to end, including monitoring, testing, and support.
  • Strong experience applying SDLC best practices, including version control, code reviews, and CI/CD.
  • Proficient SQL skills and programming experience, such as Python.
  • Experience with ERP, finance, or enterprise application data in a complex environment.
