This Senior Software Engineer role requires DoD Secret clearance and includes a $5,000 sign-on bonus. The position is onsite in Middletown, Rhode Island, and focuses on SWFTS, Cyber, and SW Infrastructure for the Payload Control System.
Role and position objectives
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to support the SWFTS, Cyber, and SW Infrastructure functional areas within the Payload Control System. This role combines hands-on software development with technical leadership and cross-functional coordination across PCS.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement software for new Capability Items (CIs)
- Investigate and resolve Problem Trouble Reports (PTRs)
- Collaborate with other functional areas to support PTR investigations
- Ensure PCS operates in SELinux enforcing mode
- Mentor junior engineers in their technical development
- Identify opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation
- Lead and facilitate the SWFTS functional area PTRB
- Assign and track SWFTS-related PTRs across team members
- Review work products to ensure PTRB acceptability and quality standards
- Monitor SWFTS Jira for new PTRs, assess PCS impact, and maintain cross-Jira traceability
- Participate in SWFTS Middleware and Messaging Working Groups
- Author Functional Design Documents (FDDs) and collaborate with government stakeholders to resolve comments
- Review test procedures for accuracy, completeness, and requirements coverage
- Prepare SWFTS Baseline Change Requests documenting inter-subsystem interface changes from new or deprecated PCS functionality
- Serve as primary point of contact between PCS and external subsystems for program interfaces
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or a related Science, Engineering, Technology or Mathematics field
- 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master’s degree plus 3 years of job-related experience
- Agile experience preferred
- DoD Secret security clearance required at time of hire
- U.S. citizenship required
