Account Engineer, Boiler & Machinery
Job Description
FM is hiring an Account Engineer (AE) with Boiler & Machinery (B&M) specialization for Chemical Operations, onsite in Norwood, MA.
Responsibilities
- Assess equipment integrity and reliability, pinpoint hazards and deficiencies, and implement risk improvement solutions to reduce equipment risk.
- Use Operating Standards, Data Sheets, and guides to provide risk guidance and apply best practices.
- Partner with Field Engineering, Operations Engineering, Account Management, and Underwriting to support Boiler & Machinery recommendations.
- Manage FM engineering resources to meet company priorities and individual client needs.
- Evaluate global risk information to strengthen competitive position for current and prospective clients.
- Drive global engineering consistency on an account basis.
- Build client/prospect understanding and reach agreement on key hazards and corporate impact of exposures.
- Deliver consistent corporate risk improvement outcomes.
- Manage change with corporate clients and maintain an effective client engineering relationship.
- Demonstrate FM’s value-added differential in engineering services to corporate clients and prospects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Minimum 4 years experience in a specialty industry such as chemical, nuclear, mining, pulp & paper, or manufacturing.
- Minimum of Senior Consulting Engineer and Industry Specialist in the Chemical Industry.
- Strong knowledge of asset integrity principles in complex process environments, including reliability and integrity of critical equipment such as:
- steam and gas turbines
- electrical generators
- rotating equipment
- boilers and piping systems
- electrical systems, including control and protection elements and how they interact and impact one another
- Ability to analyze complex data to produce accurate risk assessments and client-focused risk improvement plans that show added value.
- Ability to balance detail with organizational objectives; proficiency with computer skills; basic knowledge of insurance concepts.
- Organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, consulting, and teamwork skills for a collaborative structure.
- Excellent written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, plus good cultural awareness.
- Ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team, acting with initiative.
- Proactive, decisive approach to problem solving, balancing results orientation with attention to detail.

Role overview
- Immediate opening in the Chemical Operations Account Engineering Department.
- Posting is for AE I with B&M specialization; alignment to AE II or Senior Account Engineer may be considered based on candidate skill and experience.
- Chemical Operations Account Engineering supports chemical industry clients with operations ranging from fine chemicals to petrochemicals.
- B&M Account Engineering focuses on mechanical and electrical exposures behind evolving hazards, including rotating equipment, electrical systems, pressure vessels, and failure mechanisms affecting clients.
- AE candidate must develop understanding of clients’ business, operations, and exposures to evaluate loss potentials related to mechanical and electrical breakdowns, fire, and other hazards.
- Using the Client Service Process, AE will build client-specific risk improvement strategies that show FM’s value-add and support long-term partnerships with key stakeholders.
- Influence key stakeholders toward increased resilience, progressing into a trusted advisor through sustainable risk improvement, strong communication, engineering expertise, and business acumen.
- Maintain strong internal communication with Account Managers, underwriters, and senior leaders to support critical insurance decisions and long-term partnerships.
Location and travel
- Office-based position in Norwood, Massachusetts.
- Moderate to heavy travel expected due to clients with a global footprint.
- Relocation will be considered.
Compensation
- Hiring range: $98,000 to $141,000 per year.
- Final offer varies by geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
