Associate Engineer

Eversource Energy Service Company is hiring an Associate Engineer to help support a growing organization with engineering and technical services across complex systems and equipment. This role blends office and field work and includes opportunities to contribute to engineering for new substations and infrastructure, system analysis, and protection and control circuit engineering. You will also play a key part in acceptance testing and failure and system disturbance analysis.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering and technical expertise to identify, analyze, and resolve problems with increasing scope and complexity, including work both inside and outside typical responsibility boundaries
• Support business goals by planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring work activities that may affect operations or work group results, including some impact to major projects or department outcomes
• Prepare clear, accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches for defined problems and analyses
• Conduct engineering and related studies; complete non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight, including independent management of project schedules and interfaces, applying fundamental engineering concepts, practices, and procedures
• Develop positive working relationships and coordinate work activities across teams
• Demonstrate effective oral and written communication, and maintain accurate records and files
• Support company goals and represent the company positively and professionally

Engineering scope and expertise

The Associate Engineer will work with complex systems and equipment while supporting engineering services for the transmission and infrastructure needs of the organization. Areas of expertise include designing new substations and infrastructure, analyzing systems and disruptions to service, working with transformers, engineering electrical protection and control circuits that manage the flow of power, and supporting acceptance testing of equipment as well as failures and system disturbance analysis.

Transmission Line Engineering provides engineering and support services to help ensure reliable operation of transmission line assets in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Work includes engineering design and specification, guiding and/or overseeing design, construction, operation, maintenance, and inspections, along with performance measurements for transmission lines and structures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering
• 0-3 years related experience required (engineering design experience preferred)
• Available to work emergency restoration assignments as required
• Available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary
• Depending on the specific role, occasional to significant travel by car may be required; valid driver’s license required
• Responding to emergency situations to meet customer needs is part of every employee’s role

Technical knowledge and skills

• Knowledge of utility power systems preferred
• Ability to independently develop, present, and execute new projects through collaboration with other departments
• Familiarity with power-related software preferred

Working conditions and emergency response

• May be called to assist during emergencies outside normal responsibilities, work hours, and location
• If employed, you will be given an Emergency Restoration assignment
• Emergency restoration availability and regional travel requirements apply
