Automation Controls Engineer

ISTHMUS Engineering and Manufacturing Company is hiring an Automation Controls Engineer in Madison, WI for an onsite, full-time role focused on designing and integrating custom automated machinery. The position centers on controls development across the full build cycle, from electrical design and PLC programming to HMI, motion control, machine vision, system integration, debugging, and technical documentation.

Role Overview

As an Automation Controls Engineer, you will contribute to electrical hardware and software design, develop PLC ladder logic, and build operator interfaces through HMI development. The work also includes multi-axis motion control, machine vision integration, specifying and applying a range of robotic platforms, and supporting systems integration and equipment debug. You will also create technical writing as part of delivering and maintaining automation solutions.

Requirements

• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA79, and UL 508A
• Electrical drafting using AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical
• PLC programming on the Rockwell Automation ControlLogix platform (a must)
• Project management experience
• Excellent problem solving ability
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Robot integration and knowledge of ANSI/RIA R15.06 (a plus)

Compensation

Compensation is up to USD 120,000 per year.
