Job Description
CAC Staffing is seeking an Automation / Controls Engineer with deep Siemens PLC/ST/LAD programming expertise to support MES integration across a multi-PLC, multi-vendor manufacturing environment. This onsite contract role in Elmira, NY focuses on diagnosing and resolving alarms, faults, and data-flow issues to sustain high production uptime in a fast-paced setting.
Overview
The successful candidate will back high-volume manufacturing operations with a strong foundation in PLC programming, hands-on troubleshooting, and the ability to collaborate across controls, IT/OT, and robotics teams. Experience across multiple PLC platforms and a drive to improve system reliability are key components of this role.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and resolve PLC alarm events, system faults, and communication problems across multiple machines, robotic cells, and roughly forty networked PLCs
- Analyze, debug, and modify Structured Text (ST) and Ladder Logic (LAD) within Siemens environments, with TIA Portal preferred
- Implement and retrofit a standardized ST-based data collection and communication framework across several PLCs
- Maintain consistent tag structures, naming conventions, and data mapping to support MES integration
- Support and troubleshoot OPC/gateway communication layers between PLCs and MES
- Identify and resolve data integrity, latency, and network communication issues on PROFINET and TCP/IP networks
- Collaborate with manufacturing, IT/OT, and robotics teams to enable system integration and improve uptime
- Optimize PLC code for performance, memory usage, and communication efficiency
- Determine root causes of recurring faults and drive continuous improvement to reduce MTTR and fault frequency
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of PLC programming and troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment
- Proficiency with Siemens PLCs, with TI Portal (TIA Portal) preferred
- Experience with Structured Text (ST) and working knowledge of Ladder Logic (LAD)
- Experience with MES integration, OPC UA/DA, or similar communication layers
- Familiarity with industrial Ethernet networks (PROFINET, TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP)
- Ability to troubleshoot across PLC logic, control hardware, and network communication layers
- Experience in high-speed or high-volume manufacturing environments

Preferred Qualifications

- Knowledge of safety circuits, interlocks, and machine safety standards
- Familiarity with SCADA/HMI systems (FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Ignition)
- Experience working in multi-vendor, multi-platform control environments

Pay
Pay: $60.00 - $110.00 per hour
