Responsibilities
- Design, implement, modify, and troubleshoot PLC based control systems that support airport automation.
- Configure and diagnose Allen-Bradley PLC platforms using Studio 5000 and related software.
- Assess PLC hardware, I/O, relays, and field devices to uphold reliable system performance.
- Develop and apply control system improvements to boost efficiency and long-term reliability.
- Support system commissioning, testing, validation, and operational enhancements.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Design and integrate automation solutions across electrical, mechanical, and controls disciplines.
- Configure and troubleshoot VFDs, encoders, sensors, and networked field devices.
- Set up industrial networks and assist with field device integration.
- Develop, troubleshoot, and support HMI and SCADA applications.
- Collaborate with Controls Field Technicians during installations, commissioning, troubleshooting, and improvements.
- Review and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, and engineering documents.
- Support control panel modifications, system upgrades, and electrical integration activities.
- Troubleshoot PLC hardware, I/O modules, motors, relays, and related field devices.
- Verify system functionality through testing, commissioning, and field validation.
- Support automation projects from design through commissioning.
- Coordinate technical activities with Controls Field Technicians, Project Managers, customers, and airport operations personnel.
- Develop engineering documentation, reports, and technical deliverables.
- Promote engineering best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (equivalent industry experience may be considered).
- Experience designing, programming, commissioning, or supporting industrial automation systems.
- Strong understanding of industrial automation systems, electrical controls, and PLC based architectures.
- Ability to read, interpret, and develop electrical schematics, control drawings, and engineering documentation.
- Experience troubleshooting PLC hardware, electrical systems, field devices, and industrial networks.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Ability to obtain TSA SIDA access and successfully complete required background and drug screenings.

Work Environment
This role is based primarily at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, supporting Delta Air Lines’ automated airport systems and infrastructure. Engineers operate in active environments where troubleshooting, commissioning, and system improvements must be performed safely with minimal disruption to airport operations. Work may occur in mechanical spaces, electrical rooms, elevated areas, and both indoor and outdoor settings. Schedules may require early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, or extended hours based on project and customer needs.
Level Placement
This is a multi level position covering Levels I–III. Placement is determined during the interview process based on technical knowledge, relevant experience, engineering capability, troubleshooting ability, and alignment with responsibilities for each level. Candidates may be considered for the level that best matches their qualifications.
Pay
USD 72,000 to 140,000 per year.
