Buildings Energy Engineer

Siemens is recruiting a Buildings Energy Engineer to enhance energy performance and reduce the carbon footprint of customer facilities through on-site audits, energy calculations, and existing building commissioning. The position supports the Energy Services business in the Reno, NV area with a hybrid work arrangement based in Las Vegas, NV.

Compensation

USD 61,547 - 105,509 per year

This hybrid remote/in-office role supports the Reno, NV branch location, which serves customers throughout the greater Reno, NV area.

Position Overview

The Buildings Energy Engineer collaborates with current Siemens customers to boost facility energy efficiency and lower carbon emissions. Responsibilities include conducting energy audits, performing energy calculations, coordinating existing building commissioning, and designing customized solutions. The role also involves presenting to customers and coordinating business development efforts with sales and technology solution managers within Siemens.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site audits of HVAC systems to collect data for developing energy efficiency improvement measures.
• Collaborate with the Sales team during pre-sale activities to identify and technically qualify energy efficiency opportunities for customers.
• Attend and, when appropriate, lead client meetings and presentations.
• Execute energy calculations, including weather-based models, and design calculations to support proposed improvement measures.
• Utilize building energy simulation tools to develop models of energy, cooling, and heating loads for facilities.
• Review blueprints to identify mechanical, electrical, and controls systems and determine facility operating characteristics.
• Coordinate with Siemens operations teams and external vendors to develop facility improvement measures (FIMs).
• Assist, and when appropriate, lead existing building commissioning projects.
• Apply knowledge of industry standard commissioning procedures and techniques.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or related field preferred
• Solid understanding of HVAC design fundamentals
• Experience using data analysis tools to identify trends and patterns
• Fundamental understanding of controls
• At least 2 years of mechanical HVAC systems or design experience
• At least 2 years of experience in energy efficiency engineering within buildings, preferred
• Experience with existing building HVAC systems commissioning, preferred
• Excellent presentation skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Experience developing design concepts and schematics for recommended facility improvement measures (FIMs), including scope of work descriptions, sequences of operations, code deficiency evaluations, savings potential, cost estimates, and data to verify FIMs, preferred
• Authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship
• Must be at least 21 years old to participate in the Siemens vehicle plan and hold a valid driver's license in good standing
• Experience with large chilled water systems and controls
• Experience with HVAC systems in healthcare facilities
• Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and/or state certification as Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer, preferred
• Understanding of state and utility incentive programs
• Ability to perform industry-standard (ASHRAE or equivalent) energy audits with independent action planning and data organization to identify FIM recommendations
• Five or more years of energy industry experience supporting performance-based projects or energy services
• Familiarity with MS Excel and basic VBA programming
