Civil Engineer - Land Development

Golden State Design & Engineering is a small, growing residential design and engineering practice serving homeowners, developers, and contractors in the Sacramento region. This Civil Engineer - Land Development role centers on civil/site design, calculations, drafting, and occasional inspections, with a clear path to lead the structural engineering department as the firm expands. The position offers an hourly rate in the range of $45 to $65 and is based on site in Citrus Heights, CA.

Position Summary

We are a compact, full-service residential design and engineering firm seeking a motivated, capable entry-level structural engineer to join the team and progressively lead the structural engineering function as our practice grows.

Responsibilities

• Develop complete civil design sets for ground and land development during residential permitting, aligned with local jurisdiction requirements.
• Perform comprehensive civil calculations, evaluate site feasibility for development, and address subdivision and civil improvement plan elements.
• Provide drafting details describing building systems for Civil/Structural designs.
• Occasionally conduct field structural inspections, take measurements, review as-built conditions, coordinate with third-party consultants, and meetings with clients and contractors.
• Periodically design and analyze structural engineering calculations and schematics for civil site features.
• Assess project hazards and propose detailed, cost-effective solutions.
• Innovate and improve current design systems and procedures.
• Train and develop the structural design team to support succession and growth.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (required)
• Professional Engineer License in the state of California
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Access to automotive transportation

• Advanced knowledge of current building design codes and applications
