Commissioning Engineer
Job Description

This onsite role in Syracuse, NY supports energy efficient commissioning of multifamily and institutional properties and provides opportunities to grow expertise in building systems, measurement and verification, and green building practices.
Location: Syracuse, New York (onsite). Compensation ranges from USD 73,000 to 110,000 per year. A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or another engineering discipline is required, along with a minimum of five years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities
- Lead commissioning activities on multifamily and institutional projects in the Northeast.
- Perform functional testing, troubleshooting, and verification of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, control, and related building systems.
- Review construction documents, submittals, and system designs to confirm requirements are met.
- Develop commissioning plans, test procedures, reports, and comprehensive project documentation.
- Coordinate with engineers, contractors, owners, and project teams through design, construction, and occupancy phases.
- Identify and document system deficiencies and assist in resolving them.
- Support measurement and verification efforts through data collection planning, field coordination, analysis, and reporting.
- Review technical work for quality, accuracy, and consistency.
- Assist with proposal development and technical responses for new projects.
- Stay current with emerging building technologies, energy codes, commissioning standards, and industry best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or another engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in commissioning, HVAC design, mechanical consulting, building systems, controls, or related engineering work.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, controls, and overall building system operation.
- Experience with New York State projects, including NYSERDA, LEED, energy code compliance, existing building commissioning, or similar programs.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record and authorization to work in the United States.
- Willingness to travel to project sites across the Northeast, including occasional overnight travel.
