Controls Electrical Engineer
Job Description
Join a team supporting BlueOval Battery Park Michigan and a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. In this full-time, onsite role in Marshall, MI, you will optimize and troubleshoot automated equipment using controls, automation, and process control. You will collaborate across operations, Manufacturing Engineering, and IT to keep production running safely and efficiently.
Compensation: Salary grade 7, $86,600-$144,900 per year. Final base salary will be set within the applicable range based on skills and experience, job scope, responsibility, and competitive market value.
Responsibilities
- Optimize and innovate highly automated manufacturing equipment and processes using visual systems, automation, and advanced process control.
- Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems using Siemens (SP700), Omron, or other PLC programming software and HMI screens.
- Own systems integration across servo systems, frequency conversion systems, and upper-level computers, including appropriate parameter configuration for varying production loads.
- Support robotics and automation by troubleshooting and performing robot programming and integration (including examples such as Fanuc) with other automation systems.
- Lead fault analysis and root cause identification for complex automation issues, including identifying and rectifying electrical component faults to prevent recurrence.
- Drive continuous improvement using Andon data to prioritize work toward 100% flow, and lead Six Sigma project teams focused on efficiency, quality, and reliability.
- Serve as a technical liaison with IT on IT/Controls interface issues and partner with Manufacturing Engineering to support installation and validation of new equipment.
- Support maintenance by establishing preventive maintenance plans for equipment, electrical, and controls systems, and mentoring/training technicians to strengthen team capability.
- Ensure standards and safety alignment with the Ford Production System (FPS) and Safety Operating System practices to achieve zero injuries.
- Support lifecycle management through feasibility input for product design changes, code modifications, and automation program backups.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Automation, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
- 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive or battery cell manufacturing preferred).
- Proficiency with PLC logic (Siemens/Allen-Bradley), HMI, VFD, and networking/communication protocols (for example, Ethernet, Profinet).
- Fundamental working knowledge of industrial electronics, controls circuit design, and machine safety standards.
- Working knowledge of 2D and 3D vision systems for robot guidance, metrology, and identification.
- Ability to demonstrate leadership behaviors with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work various shifts and hours, including weekends, and to travel extensively (including internationally) as needed for plant launch and support.

- 5+ years of relevant Controls Engineering experience
- Familiarity with Data Collection, AI/ML, IIOT, and Digital Twins
