Job Description

This onsite Controls Engineer role in Waukesha, WI provides a competitive annual salary range of $100,000 to $135,000 and the opportunity to work with a talented team that values ideas and professional development. The role centers on designing, implementing, and configuring new automation systems, upgrading machinery to modern control platforms, and enhancing existing manufacturing lines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead reviews of customer requirements to define specifications, select components, map machine control layouts, and program PLCs and HMIs to meet client needs.
  • Deliver complete software solutions by programming PLCs, HMIs, and third party devices based on controls specifications and drawings.
  • Install software, perform I/O testing, and debug PLC and HMI programs to ensure robust operation.
  • Participate in product and system design reviews, machine testing, installation, and start-up activities.
  • Design and develop electrical control systems that interface with process manufacturing equipment and devices.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent electrical/electronic control experience; not required but a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience with industrial electrical and machine control system design.
  • Experience in Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI programming and products.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present professionally.
  • Excellent problem solving and time management capabilities.
  • Electrical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Process control equipment experience.
  • Ability to collaborate with other engineering and manufacturing personnel to resolve plant floor issues.
  • Knowledge of variable frequency drives and coordinated drive systems (AB PowerFlex, Siemens, etc.).
  • Knowledge of motion control systems, including servo applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of PLC programming: RS Logix 500, RS Logix 5000, Studio 5000, Connected Components Workbench; Siemens S7/PCS7 or similar is a plus.
  • Knowledge of network and communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of HMI systems such as Rockwell FactoryTalk View Studio SE/ME; Siemens WinCC, Wonderware InTouch or others is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25 percent.
  • Experience designing systems to current safety standards.
  • Experience with vision systems is a plus.
  • Experience in robot programming is a plus.
