Controls Engineer
Job Description
P & A Industries, Inc. is hiring an on-site, 1st shift Robotic/Controls Engineer in Findlay, OH. This role combines software changes, robot programming, and electrical controls expertise to help strengthen manufacturing capabilities through safety-focused machine control, fast troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. You will also support installations and training so production teams can run and maintain equipment effectively.
What you’ll do
- Approve process specification and design standards for equipment and controls.
- Develop and implement software changes to improve production capabilities.
- Design and develop robots, including the computer software used to program robots.
- Apply knowledge of manufacturing production requirements to help use robots in automated systems that support cost efficiency, productivity, and quality.
- Assist with repair and maintenance of robots and robotic equipment.
- Train robotics operators on how to operate robots and related equipment, and help establish basic maintenance and repair programs at new installations.
- Participate in the plant APQP process for new equipment and processes involving electrical and electronic circuitry.
- Provide electrical technical expertise to troubleshoot and solve problems in electrical and electronic circuits to minimize machine downtime and scrap.
- Provide, practice, and maintain safe and effective machine controls designs and auxiliary equipment used in the plant.
- Use ladder-logic circuits effectively to optimize manufacturing processes, with safety prioritized.
- Conduct tool shop buyoffs on new process and automation equipment, including electric controls, poka-yoke, and special circuits.
- Serve as a team member on the plant poka-yoke team evaluation of processes.
- Act as a resource for plant continuous improvement and self-directed teams related to electric and electronic controls.
- Support the design, installation, and maintenance of the plant’s electric power distribution system.
- Interface with tool and die and maintenance activities to provide technical expertise upon request.
- Use AutoCad/CadKey to prepare and alter drawings and documents.
- Be authorized to initiate action to prevent nonconformities related to product, process, and the quality system.
- Perform other essential job functions as assigned.
Requirements
- 5 years of manufacturing experience
- 5 years of robotic/controls engineering experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Controls Engineering or related field
- Microsoft Project, Microsoft Powerpoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
- Good communication and written skills
