Job Description

Intralox is seeking a Controls Engineer-Lifecycle Services professional to support customer sites and help bring control systems from installation through commissioning. The role in Hanover, MD focuses on troubleshooting and upgrades, leading field execution, and contributing to factory acceptance testing for industrial equipment.

This full-time position supports PLC/HMI configuration, remote problem solving, and training activities, with travel and occasional on-call duties as needed.

Role overview

  • Provide technical support at client sites for new and existing systems.
  • Lead field installation and commissioning of equipment.
  • Support and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment and systems remotely (phone/remote sessions).
  • Develop and implement controls upgrades on existing systems.
  • Support factory acceptance tests with the Test Engineering Group.
  • Provide design and assembly support for industrial conveyor equipment, as needed.
  • May be assigned small projects to complete independently.

Key responsibilities

  • Produce troubleshooting instructions, work instructions, and training material.
  • Lead training, troubleshooting, and repair or adjustment of mechanical and electrical control systems.
  • Support mechanical and electrical subcontractors during installation at customer facilities.
  • Work with other groups for continuous improvement of systems and processes.
  • Coordinate and perform field commissioning steps in support of delivered equipment.
  • Be available for periodic On-Call duties.
  • Support upgrades, configuration, and commissioning activities for control systems.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline.
  • At least 2 years providing technical support at client sites, including troubleshooting mechanical or electrical equipment and configuring PLCs/HMIs and related experience.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude with willingness to both design and perform field work.
  • Ability to understand and work from electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge of commonly used controls engineering concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to understand manufacturer data sheets and apply them in practice.
  • Ability to configure PLCs, HMIs, computers, networks, cameras, and variable frequency drives (VFDs) used to control sorters, conveyors, and related equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and creative approach.
  • Proficiency with remote working tools such as Zoom, Chime, WebEx, Teams, TeamViewer, or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with engineering groups, customers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Self-managed team player who can operate independently when assigned small projects.
  • Ability to travel (20% to 65%), work weekends, holidays, and overtime when required.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation Studio 5000.

Job details

  • Job type: Full-time
  • Salary: USD 75,000 per year (from $75,000.00 per year)
  • Location: Hanover, MD 21076 (in person, onsite). Ability to commute required.
  • Relocation: Relocate before starting work (Hanover, MD 21076) required.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel up to 75% required.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with Developer Software: SIEMENS TIA Portal, Beckhoff TWINCAT, Matlab and Matlab Simulink.
  • Experience with VFDs: AB PowerFlex 525, Siemens G120, SEW Movimots.
  • Experience with HMI platforms: Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation FT View Machine Edition, Siemens WinCC, Schneider Electric Indusoft and Wonderware, GE Cimplicity.
  • Experience working with fieldbuses and communication protocols: Devicenet and Ethernet/IP; Profibus and Profinet; CANOpen and EtherCAT; Ethernet TCP/IP.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and AutoDesk Inventor.
  • Familiar with Solidworks PDM or PTC Windchill PLM.
  • Familiar with ERP systems such as Oracle and SAP.
  • Deep understanding of NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 79, and UL508A standards and regulations.
