Job Description

The Controls Panel Design Engineer role focuses on transforming customer inputs, drawings, specifications, and concepts into precise, manufacturable control panel designs. This on-site position in Eau Claire, WI offers an hourly rate of USD 30 to 45, with collaboration across engineering, customers, and production to ensure builds are right the first time and delivered on schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial control panel design or electrical systems

Responsibilities

  • Translate customer drawings, specifications, and control narratives into practical panel designs
  • Design industrial control panels including electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and BOMs
  • Produce and maintain drawings using AutoCAD Electrical and Zuken (E3 or equivalent)
  • Engage with customers to clarify requirements and resolve design issues
  • Compile complete submittal packages with layouts and device lists
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure designs are buildable and efficient
  • Manage multiple projects and adhere to customer timelines
  • Maintain engineering documentation, standards, and drawing libraries
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (UL, NEC, and customer specifications)

Requirements

  • Proven experience designing industrial control panels or electrical systems
  • Ability to interpret customer-provided drawings and specifications accurately
  • Proficient with AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD tools
  • Skilled in electrical schematic design
  • Familiar with PLC I/O layouts
  • Knowledgeable about relays, sensors, and power distribution
  • Understanding of industrial wiring practices
  • Experience developing BOMs and selecting components
  • Strong problem-solving skills and high attention to detail
  • Effective communication with customers and internal teams
  • Solid understanding of how mechanical and electrical systems interface with industrial panels (motors, sensors, actuators, HVAC/BMS systems)
