D489 Main Propulsion Motor (MPM) - Experienced Systems Engineer
Job Description
Seasoned systems engineer responsible for overseeing the Main Propulsion Motor lifecycle for the COLUMBIA Class electric drive propulsion system, including mentoring duties for junior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Oversee shipyard construction and test activities, including assembly and test procedures, troubleshooting manufacturing and test processes, and disposition of technical requirements.
- Engage in technical discussions with vendors, the prime contractor, and nuclear Navy customers.
- Provide on-site oversight at vendor facilities and at the Philadelphia Compatibility Test Facility to support component outfitting and installation.
- Review internal documentation to verify compliance with ship and procurement specifications.
- Mentor and train entry-level engineers in fundamental technical rigor and completed staff work to develop complex equipment.
- Communicate technical issues clearly with nuclear Navy customers, vendors, Electric Boat operations, and EB management.
- Based at the New London facility with periodic travel to Quonset Point, Groton, the Philadelphia CTF, EB focus factories/Rhoads, and supplier facilities as needed (approximately 10% travel).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s of Science Degree in an engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of related engineering experience.
- Current DOD Secret security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
- Knowledge of technical drawing interpretation and GD&T.
- Familiar with standard operating and/or test procedure development.
- Knowledge of component integration to ship structures.
- Operations/construction support experience.
- Experience in submarine electronics or mechanical system development, integration, installation and test.
- Project management skills with a working knowledge of analytical problem-solving techniques.
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are a must.
- Highly motivated with the ability to work effectively both in a team environment and independently.

Qualifications Required
