Data Engineer

ExxonMobil seeks a Data Engineer to join the Data Solutions group within the Development Strategy Team, based onsite in Spring, Texas. The role emphasizes building and operating data pipelines, analytics, automation, and governance to support sustainable products and platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement automated workflows using Python, GIS, SQL, Spotfire, Alteryx, MS Power Platform, and related tools to reduce human error, standardize data, and uphold data integrity and governance.
• Enhance and expand existing systems, preparing them for scalable growth.
• Design, develop, test, document, deploy, monitor, and sustain data pipelines.
• Create analytical dashboards with Business Intelligence tools such as Spotfire and Databricks, as well as web frameworks including Shiny and React.
• Collaborate with domain experts, data scientists, and engineers to understand needs, constraints, and limitations.
• Develop ETL processes and maintain integrations across multiple systems and data sources.
• Prepare technical data for interpretation, perform analyses, and produce final results for formal presentations.
• Demonstrate a willingness to learn, experiment, and grow in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Geoscience, or Analytics.
• Self-directed with comfort supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products.
• Interest in optimizing or redesigning the company's data architecture to enable next generation products and data initiatives.
• Proficiency in SQL with experience querying relational databases, views, and normalized schemas.
• Programming capability (Python preferred) with knowledge of algorithms, clean code practices, and environment management.
• Experience using enterprise ETL tools such as Alteryx, Azure Synapse, and Azure Data Factory.
• Experience performing root cause analysis on data and processes to answer business questions and identify improvement opportunities.
• Ability to build processes supporting data transformation, metadata, dependencies, and workload management.
• Track record of manipulating and extracting value from large, disparate datasets.
• Strong project management and organizational skills.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in fast-moving settings.
• Ability to identify opportunities for automation and enhance existing workflows and processes.
• Experience designing and optimizing large scale data pipelines, architectures, and datasets.
• Knowledge of Angular, JavaScript, C#, and Java programming languages.
• Familiarity with cloud technologies including Azure, AWS, and GCP.
• Expertise in Databricks and Snowflake.
• Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and scalable big data stores.
• Experience in the Oil and Gas industry is preferred.
