Job Description

Thomson Reuters’ Special Services (TRSS) organization builds internal and external data-enabled solutions that help customers turn information into action. In this Data Engineer role (hybrid in McLean, VA), you will support the implementation and ongoing delivery of data workflows across structured and unstructured sources, collaborating with both internal teams and customer technology staff.

What you’ll do

  • Partner with internal resources and customer technology staff to implement and support custom TRSS client solutions and POCs
  • Design, build, and support data pipelines and workflows that improve the usefulness and efficiency of internal and external data for customer issues
  • Support and continually improve internal processes, including automation of robotic processes across the organization where possible
  • Provide solution architecture support for business opportunities
  • Contribute to leadership with technical expertise, including input tied to customer technology requirements and infrastructure
  • Interpret client-specific requirements, mission context, and integrate TRSS content into client applications with tailored solutions
  • Help deliver internal and external data-enabled solutions supporting TRSS
  • Maintain a customer-facing component that includes direct implementation and support of existing or new applications at customer locations

Requirements

  • Several years of data engineering experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience leading implementation and customization of technical solutions, preferably for government clients
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages, particularly Python and SQL (other languages may be useful)
  • Experience with RESTful web services and current data communications technologies
  • Experience connecting to and querying a variety of relational and document-oriented databases
  • Comfort working in GUI and command line environments in Linux and Windows OS
  • Basic understanding of common data structures including flat files, XML, JSON, and graph structures
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, including AWS
  • Must possess a strong personal work ethic and be of superior moral and ethical character
  • Ability to operate under pressure with dynamic, changing requirements
  • US National Secret security clearance required to start, TS preferred
  • High level understanding of network troubleshooting techniques and communications protocols
  • Experience with information retrieval and storage technologies such as AWS Glue and Snowflake

  • Experience in virtualized environments, including standing up and configuring a local virtual machine with locally hosted web applications

Compensation and location

Location: McLean, VA (hybrid). The base compensation range for the role in the listed locations is $94,000 USD - $175,000 USD per year. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
