Data Engineer, Business Strategy & Analytics

Position: Data Engineer supporting NHL, Arena, and Sabertooth Sports & Entertainment business units, onsite in Nashville, TN.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the operational strategy for database architecture and design within the business strategy and analytics function.
• Improve performance and scalability of reporting datasets through normalization, indexing, and query optimization.
• Design and oversee ETL/ELT pipelines, data migrations, and validation processes, including data flows via APIs, RSS feeds, webhooks, SFTP servers, and SaaS platforms.
• Create modeled data sets for automated reporting across ticketing, partnerships, digital marketing, and customer journey mapping.
• Develop and manage identity resolution or golden record systems.
• Collaborate with CRM and Analytics teams to understand data needs and deliver reliable solutions.
• Expand the analytics team's scope and impact within the Business Strategy & Analytics department.
• Apply techniques to identify, extract, and analyze data to support business decisions.
• Translate complex data into actionable insights through analytical approaches.
• Document data processes, schemas, and workflows.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required with a track record of achievement; preferred concentrations include computer science, information systems, business analytics, or statistics.
• 0 to 1 year of professional experience building ETL/ELT pipelines, relational database design/management, and data operations.
• Expert-level SQL skills, PostgreSQL preferred.
• Familiarity with Amazon Redshift and related AWS services (S3, RDS, IAM, Glue, DMS) is a plus.
• Proficiency in R, Python, JavaScript, or other open-source tools for data pipeline development.
• Strong understanding of dimensional data modeling and practical experience building star schemas with facts, dimensions, and slowly changing dimensions.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Understanding of ticket operations systems (Ticketmaster, TM1, Archtics) a plus.
• Understanding of CRM data a plus.
• Ability to identify problems, their sources, and potential solutions while maintaining day-to-day operations.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strong critical thinking and attention to detail.
• Sports and Entertainment industry experience is a strong plus.
• Strong organization and prioritization skills.
