Electrical Controls Engineer

The Electrical Controls Engineer will participate in the design, planning, and implementation of engineering projects focused on upgrading plant production capabilities and physical plant equipment and systems at the Lafayette facility. This onsite role also includes electrical project management and technical support for maintenance troubleshooting and electrical improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage assigned electrical engineering projects to support adherence to design parameters, cost constraints, installation schedules, and overall project effectiveness.
• Research, estimate costs, and submit work orders and R&As for assigned projects and programs.
• Coordinate procurement of required materials and equipment, maintain cost records, and track delivery timelines; interface with purchasing, vendors, and suppliers as needed.
• Assist with cost reduction initiatives through engineering design and project implementation.
• Support the engineering department safety program and contribute to plant safety and operational programs through engineering design and project implementation.
• Provide support to the maintenance department for troubleshooting and resolving electrical and electronic issues.
• Deliver electrical engineering guidance and technical knowledge as required.
• Recommend capital expenditures to align with plant and company goals.
• Engineer electrical upgrades across magnet wire production equipment, including electrical panels, control panels, PLCs, DC and AC drives, temperature controllers, viscometers, alarm systems, process monitoring, and computer interfaces.
• Assist with maintaining and organizing engineering, equipment, and financial records and documentation.
• Write programs for personal computers, LANS, programmable controllers, and interfaces with mainframe computers.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, or an Associates, with 5+ years of experience in Industrial Manufacturing.
• Knowledge of circuit design and modification, plant engineering and maintenance operations, magnet wire production equipment, outside shops, suppliers, industrial power distribution systems, and electrical codes.
• Ability to use computer software to prepare design calculations, data collection, schematics, report generation, equipment layouts, panel designs, and automated controls design. Tools include: RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, Factory Talk View Machine Edition, EZ Series, C-More, Siemens Step-7, and AutoCAD.
• PLC logic design and troubleshooting knowledge, specifically Allen Bradley.
• Knowledge of VFD controls and ability to program across a wide range of brands.
• HMI design and programming knowledge across a wide range of brands.
• Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook) and CAD.
• Strong analytical, planning, and project management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while providing plant-wide technical support to maintenance.
