Electrical Engineer
Job Description
An Electrical Engineer is sought to design a generator system for a pedal-electric prototype, convert an alpha prototype's mechanical resistance to electronic control, and develop software that adjusts pedal load based on current draw and incline. This on-site role is based in the Twin Cities region of Minneapolis–Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Overview
The position supports Kronfeld Motor Company in advancing a pedal-electric vehicle concept where pedals drive a generator rather than the rear wheel. The engineer will translate mechanical resistance into electronic control, and create software to modulate pedal resistance in response to electrical load and incline, with hands-on duties in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area.
Responsibilities
- Design a generator system for a prototype electric vehicle project.
- Implement dynamic pedal resistance that adjusts according to current draw from the battery and electrical system.
- Convert the alpha prototype's mechanical bicycle transmission to electronic control.
- Develop system control software that varies pedal resistance based on incline/decline, manual inputs, user-set levels, and program profiles.
Requirements
- Experience with electric motors and generators
- Familiarity with motor controllers
- Background in control systems using Arduino, microcontrollers, or PCBs
- Proficiency with PWM techniques
- Knowledge of automotive CAN networks
Technologies
- Arduino and microcontrollers
- Printed circuit boards (PCBs)
- PWM techniques
- CAN automotive communications
- Electric motors and generators
- Motor controllers
Location
Minneapolis, Minnesota, onsite. Applicants must reside in the Twin Cities metro area (Minneapolis–Saint Paul).
Compensation
Hourly rate of USD 50 per hour. This is a project-based role with compensation linked to the completion of the system.
