Position Summary
The Electrical Engineer will design, develop, and test the electrical systems related to fire trucks. Electrical engineering translates product ideas into functional prototypes and ultimately production-ready solutions. The role supports advanced engineering designs and production designs, and handles issue evaluation and resolution using engineering tools and efficient processes.

Essential Functions

- Develops, maintains, and ensures conformance to corporate, customer, and regulatory electrical sub-system specifications and performance requirements of existing products.
- Initiates and implements integrated hardware and software solutions to meet respective sub-system performance specifications while improving value by increasing quality and performance or by reducing costs.
- Coordinates and participates in developing products with other departments including Manufacturing, Purchasing, Service, Sales, and Marketing.
- Develops, executes, and monitors lab and field performance test programs; gathers and analyzes data to monitor product and component performance.
- Accumulates product application expertise.
- Acts as a technical resource to other departments including Manufacturing, Purchasing, Service, Sales, and Marketing to address and resolve inquiries and problems.
- Maintains contact with suppliers and purchasing to evaluate new products and ensure parts received meet quality standards.
- Develops and implements corrective action in accordance with QMS procedures.
- Prepares and updates product and quality specifications.
- Reviews Quality Audit records and analyzes customer returns to assess product conformance to specifications.
- Maintains regulatory agency approvals.
- Prioritizes and manages multiple projects and objectives as well as handling unscheduled tasks.
- Prepares and presents project status reports.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the company.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience:
- Bachelorβs degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Experience working with automotive electronics required.
- 3+ years working with automotive electronics preferred.
- Product data management utilizing CAD and PDM systems preferred.
- Experience with vehicle electric DC and AC generation and supply preferred.
- Experience with J1939 or other CAN bus protocols and wiring preferred.
- Knowledge and application of design for manufacturing and design for service preferred.
- Knowledge of firefighting processes and equipment preferred.
Skills:
- Language: Able to read, interpret, and apply relevant scientific and technical documentation and standards; actively participate in engineering discussions by listening, asking relevant questions, and proposing solutions.
- Math: Ability to perform advanced electrical calculations including logarithms, calculus, statistics, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Computer: Intermediate experience with Microsoft Suite required; experience with Visio and schematic drawing software required.
Abilities:
- High engineering quality with first-pass accuracy; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities through problem definition, data collection, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
- Ability to develop processes for high engineering quality, accuracy, and efficiencies.
- Proficiency in managing multiple, diverse projects, including analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, problem solving, decision making, and carrying out assigned projects with minimal supervision.
- Ability to evaluate designs to meet customer requirements and ensure full vehicle integration of your sub-system to meet all top-down system requirements.
- Initiative to achieve results in a fast-paced environment.

- Driving: Valid driver's license; ability to drive a company vehicle as needed.
- Hours of work: Ability to work evenings and/or weekends occasionally as needed to support project goals or production needs.
- Travel: Local travel for meetings, tradeshows, or other department/industry related events; Overnight travel as needed for industry trade shows or travel to other locations; Prolonged travel as needed.
