Launch Electrical Wiring Engineer coordinates harness design and manufacturing during vehicle launches, partnering with GM plant Electrical Teams and suppliers to support training and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate wire harness design and manufacturing activities during vehicle launches, collaborating with plant Electrical Teams and suppliers to ensure readiness.
- Serve as a core member of the plant Electrical Team, contributing to cross-functional collaboration.
- Complete required GM and supplier training and participate in launch activities at GM plants and wiring harness suppliers; travel is required.
- Develop and execute the Launch Protection Plan and Electrical BoO at wiring harness suppliers, including on-site workshops and assessments.
- Represent plant and supplier perspectives during wire harness and electrical architecture reviews.
- Support virtual builds, architecture working sessions, and early build readiness to evaluate manufacturability and repair approaches.
- Coordinate efforts to deliver defect-free harnesses by partnering with packaging teams, suppliers, and assembly plants.
- Assist with electrical issues including warranty matters.
- Lead and support in‑plant wiring harness assessments, troubleshoot electrical problems, and implement corrective actions.
- Document lessons learned, generate actionable follow‑ups from electrical failures, and track issues to closure to drive continuous improvement and GCA/OPEX initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field
- Experience with automotive electrical subsystems
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25–50%
- Strong interpersonal and team-building skills with the ability to collaborate across functions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Skills
- 3+ years of experience with automotive electrical subsystems
- Prior manufacturing plant experience in either Electrical or Plant Floor Operations
- Experience in Electrical Engineering
- Experience in automotive manufacturing
- Supervisory experience on the plant floor, including managing UAW employees
- Thorough knowledge of Manufacturing Requirements and their impact on the build process
