Position Summary
The Senior Design Engineer leads complex design initiatives spanning electronic, firmware/software, optical and microelectronic assemblies within the OIS optoelectronic module product development program. This role is central to the full product development cycle, from concept to production, ensuring adherence to technical, manufacturing and commercial standards. The engineer collaborates across functions to deliver innovative, manufacturable solutions, driving design efficiency, quality and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of new products or enhancements across electrical, electronic, photonic, mechanical and thermal domains. Serve as a subject matter expert in electronic and embedded systems.
- Own the design of products or sub products within development projects, defining design tactics and scheduling.
- Perform design risk analysis and create mitigation plans; partner with the project manager to continuously assess project risks.
- Document and manage the design process in accordance with Radiall development procedures.
- Execute advanced simulations, calculations and tolerance analyses to validate performance.
- Create detailed CAD models, drawings and documentation through all development phases.
- Develop innovative and adaptable solutions to meet evolving customer or manufacturing requirements for complex projects.
- Implement design to cost initiatives across the product lifecycle.
- Propose and implement design changes to improve performance, reliability or manufacturability.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to define production methods, repair procedures and process improvements.
- Analyze customer compliance and apply corrective design actions as needed.
- Coordinate with Sales, Quality and Production to ensure project alignment and customer satisfaction.
- Review customer specifications and assess technical feasibility, preparing supporting documentation and quote data.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and designers as needed.
Profile and Qualifications
Education and Experience
Master of Science in Electronic or related fields, or a postgraduate degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, plus eight or more years of experience in electronics product design and development.
Systems Experience
Experience with electronic CAD tools, coding languages and development software such as C, C++ and Python.
Technical Skills
- Project management experience
- Proficiency with electronic CAD tools, simulation software and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems
- Strong knowledge of electronic design principles, microelectronic assembly and manufacturing processes
- Experience with design validation, testing and documentation best practices
- Familiarity with cleanroom and floor environments and hands-on assembly process optimization
- Interest in practical activities and test lab environments
- Project management experience and DFMEA
Soft Skills
- Excellent problem solving and analytical abilities
- Strong communication and collaboration across cross functional teams
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision
