Job Description

Based in Margate, Florida, Buchanan PE Consulting INC is looking for an on-site Electrical Engineer / CAD Designer to support production-level electrical design for a mixed portfolio. The role emphasizes AutoCAD-driven construction documents for single-family homes, restaurants, and commercial properties, with a strong emphasis on accurate layouts and code compliance. The successful candidate will work closely with MEP peers and project teams to translate architectural intent into precise electrical solutions.

Job Summary

The Electrical Engineer / CAD Designer will create production-level electrical designs for a portfolio that includes single-family homes, restaurants, and commercial properties, with occasional multi-family and apartment projects. Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential, and the role prioritizes code-compliant, precise engineering delivered on site.

Responsibilities

  • Produce construction documents and electrical layouts with AutoCAD.
  • Design lighting systems and place outlets/devices in alignment with architectural plans.
  • Create panel schedules and clear riser diagrams.
  • Perform critical engineering calculations, including short-circuit (AIC) and voltage drop analyses.
  • Ensure designs comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and Florida building codes.

Requirements

  • Experience: 3+ years in electrical design is preferred; salary is aligned to experience level.
  • Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong foundation in power distribution, lighting layout, and electrical load calculations.
  • Licensing: EIT/FE certification or a path toward PE is a strong plus, but not required.
  • Attributes: High attention to detail, strong work ethic, and willingness to be trained by leading MEP professionals in the state.
  • Language: Fluent in English (written and verbal).
