Job Description
Electrical Engineer within AECOM's Building and Places group, based in Dallas or Houston, TX, onsite, focusing on electrical power and lighting designs across markets from concept through project realization, with emphasis on decarbonization and electrification in sustainable building design.
Responsibilities
- Provide electrical engineering support from concept design through construction administration and post-occupancy phases.
- Contribute as a specialist on portions of broader projects under guidance from an experienced engineer.
- Gather and correlate essential engineering data using established procedures.
- Assist in reviewing shop drawings during the construction administration phase.
- Collaborate with managers and colleagues to advance the firm's mission.
- Keep current with codes and technologies relevant to the electrical discipline.
- Participate in site visits to collect data and evaluate electrical systems, equipment, components, and materials for projects.
- Prepare design drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and studies for electrical facility designs.
- Complete electrical power and lighting designs for projects of varying sizes.
- Produce plans, specifications, reports, and other project deliverables.
- Prepare one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, conduit and cable sizing/routing, and equipment selection.
- Coordinate design and scheduling with other disciplines and equipment suppliers, including architectural, structural, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment vendors.
- Exercise judgment on details of work when selecting and adapting engineering options.
- Develop designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings for senior staff review.
- Provide specialized technical input to studies and designs within the area of expertise.
- Perform engineering calculations and create drawings and visual aids.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and design data for permanent project files.
- Work within approved budget and schedule under supervision.
- Use software to perform lighting calculations.
- Analyze problems and prepare internal and external reports and memos based on findings.
- Conduct site investigations and walk-throughs of project locations.
- Mentor and train junior staff members.
Requirements
- BA/BS in Electrical Engineering and six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience delivering electrical power and lighting designs for projects of all sizes using electrical design software.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain within one year of the hire date.
- Proficiency with Revit to produce project deliverables.
- Strong communication skills, including clear articulation, assertiveness, and confidence.
- Creative thinker with effective teamwork abilities.
- Willingness to be mentored by leadership.
- Experience with sustainable design.
- Strong attention to detail and quality of work.
- Experience with Electrical Power Calculation Software.
- Experience applying the National Electrical Code.
- Ability to switch between multiple projects daily.
- Working knowledge of NFPA, ISA, and IEEE regulatory codes.
- Competence with spreadsheets, word processing, and standard Microsoft software.
- Ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Willingness to travel to client offices and project locations for site visits, design, and inspection tasks as needed.
