Electrical Engineer II & Technical Support (Supervisor)
Job Description
Electrical Engineer II and Technical Support Supervisor role based in Rialto, CA, overseeing a small technical team while designing control systems, programming PLC/HMI, and supporting dealer networks to ensure project delivery and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor electrical engineering and technical support staff, guiding day-to-day activities and professional development.
- Plan workloads, assign tasks, and manage schedules to maintain coverage across the team.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and support onboarding and hiring for new team members.
- Coordinate with Design, Process Engineering, Sales, and Production to align staffing with project commitments.
- Interface with customer stakeholders to confirm project deliverables and technical requirements align with schedule.
- Design electrical control systems, including developing schematics, component layouts (AutoCAD), and bills of materials; validate systems after assembly.
- Author and maintain PLC and HMI programs to automate control systems.
- Perform electrical load calculations such as amperage, wattage, short-circuit analysis, and load protection calculations.
- Evaluate electrical systems and components through design research to confirm capabilities and compatibility.
- Develop systems by assessing customer requirements and exploring assembly methods and materials beyond standard production.
- Ensure product quality through testing of finished products and system capabilities.
- Prepare product reports by collecting and analyzing data, identifying trends and alternative components.
- Support the dealer network and their technical staff by answering engineering questions and assisting with remote troubleshooting.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, national codes, and OSHA standards.
- Manage the component database in the ERP system, including data entry and bills of materials.
- Ensure completed projects meet electrical specifications and are properly handed off to dealers and technical staff.
- Stay current on professional and technical knowledge through workshops, publications, and professional networks.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of electrical control systems (PLC), with emphasis on Allen-Bradley.
- Experience writing PLC and HMI code for automation using Allen-Bradley software.
- Ability to perform electrical load calculations and apply current electrical standards and codes.
- Strong computer skills including AutoCAD, Excel, Word, Outlook, and ERP systems.
- High attention to detail, strong analytical ability, and solid project management skills.
- Prior experience leading or supervising a technical team.
- Proven ability to manage customer expectations and clearly communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- 3+ years PLC programming software experience.
- 3+ years drawing schematics experience.
- 3+ years working with electrical systems.
- 1+ year in a supervisory or team-leading role (preferred).
